The Common Room is a heritage venue in the centre of Newcastle that reopened to the public in 2021. The venue celebrates the region’s engineering history through education and engagement, with a vision to inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators. The Common Room also operates as a unique wedding and conference venue.

We conducted a brand workshop to take into account the views and thoughts of several key stakeholder groups. Working with the insights gathered we developed a brand articulation that informed the basis for our creative approach. We went on to develop the visual identity and a couplets messaging system which celebrates both the The Common Room’s past and its vision. Outputs include a travelling roadshow telling the story of engineering past and present, a book, brochures and interpretation graphics within the building.

The Common Room is building a strong digital presence supported by designs for social media posts, advertising campaigns and most recently an interactive digital version of the roadshow.
